The Masters in Business Management is a two-year full time post-graduate program culminating with the student obtaining a PostGraduate degree in Business Management awarded by the University of Calcutta. The present intake of the department for this program is thirty-three students.
The program was introduced and run as a three year full time post graduate course in 1976 under the then University College of Business Studies till the early 1980's when the course duration was brought down to two years without diluting the course content and quality. Since 1985, when the full-fledged Department of Business Management was established, the department is exclusively running the course.
The MBM program imparts knowledge and training to aspiring young people in the theory and practice of Management and in-grooming the management teachers and researchers of the future, depending on the incumbent's inclination. Our efforts are also geared to inculcate among the students a sense of accountability, responsibility, flexibility and ethics. The department lays special emphasis on imparting conceptual and analytical tools necessary to solve a wide range of management problems. The course helps to build up long term vision and strategic thinking.
Summer Training is designed to provide the students with an opportunity to work closely with experienced managers in an organisational setting. It exposes the students to the workings and functions of organisations and gives them scope to apply, test and polish the skills acquired in the classroom. Through the summer training, the students develop practical skills and realistic assessment of the managerial functions in corporate organizations.
Final Placement Program is the most critical task before the department to help the graduating batch of students in finding the appropriate jobs to which they are suited. This also helps potential employers, on a look out for quality personnel, to meet and assess the right type of candidates. The placement session commences during the winter every year and proceeds for about eight weeks for each session.
